  8. NOTE:  This tool is only intended for users with a Macintosh Plus computer, running
  9. System 7.
  10.  
  11. This tool updates the MacTCP 1.1 driver to correct a problem with the reception of
  12. packets on Macintosh Pluses running System 7.0 or later.  The problem is that the
  13. MacTCP 1.1 socket listener code and the lower levels of AppleTalk v56 LocalTalk code
  14. each grew in code length and became the critical path for packet delivery. The net
  15. result is MacTCP 1.1 doesn't always read in the packet quickly enough in a MacPlus
  16. to prevent an underrun error on the SCC chip, thereby causing a dropped packet.

  18. Again, this tool is unsupported.  Use it at your own risk.

  20. The modified driver will work on Apple Macintosh Plus Computers running System 7.

  24. The MacTCP 1.1 driver update process is irreversible.
  25. Please make a copy of the original MacTCP 1.1 driver and update a copy.

  27. How to update MacTCP 1.1?
  28. ------------------------
  29. -  Launch the tool.
  30. -  Click on the Open button and in the file dialog, select the MacTCP 1.1 driver to be
  31.    updated.
  32. -  Click on the Update button, the tool will update the driver.
  33. -  After successful updating, the tool will notify the user.
  34. -  Reboot the machine.

  36. How to tell the difference ?
  37. --------------------------
  38. In case of the original MacTCP 1.1 drivers, the version number is 1.1.
  39. The modified MacTCP 1.1 driver's version number is 1.1+.
  40. The "Get Info" menu item under File menu will show the version information.

  44. All buttons have command key equivalents (Open - Command O, Update - Command U,
  45. Close - Command W, Quit - Command Q).
